Dear Friends of The Little Grill and Little Store Collective,

We'd like to announce the closing of our beloved Store in March. We have found that since we opened the doors, we have been unable to give deserved energy to both the Store and the Grill. We have also found that in order to run the Store as efficiently as possible, only a select number of those of us who own the store have been closely involved in the process, and we don't feel that this meets our ideal model of a worker-owned collective.

Due to these realizations, we have decided to close the Store and once again focus our collective energy on the Grill. However, we have learned a lot from the Store and believe it to be an asset to the community. We hope to sell the Store to a group within the Grill, a group in the community, or any interested buyer. So check back in... the Store may only be going through a metamorphosis. Saturday July 30 (Coming up!) - OCP Summer Lawn Jam

Right on! The annual Summer Lawn Jam over at the OCP (blue building diagonally across from the grill looking south) is going on this weekend. Here's the scoop:

July 30th - Our Community Place is planning a day of bicycling, music, food and fun for the whole family! OCP is hosting the Shenandoah Valley Bike Festival; a day of non-competitive rides (100, 50, and 25 mile) followed by a Family Friendly "Critical Mass" Ride through downtown Harrisonburg. The day will include live music, food, kids activities, volleyball, a yard sale, raffles, a silent auction and more. The event is free to all humans! Any and all donations will go to the OCP - a volunteer non-profit organization that sponsors the Free Food For All Soup Kitchen and is currently renovating a building for use as a Community Center that will offer free food, education, and fun to all. To register for rides and/or to get more information go to www.ourcommunityplace.org or contact Ron Copeland at 433-7738. Yard Sale donations are appreciated! The event will take place at Our Community Place on the corner of Johnson and North Main across from the Little Grill Collective on the north end of downtown Harrisonburg.

LGC Closings, 1/2 Days, Music, and THE LITTLE STORE!

Hey everyone!

I hope you've all been having some wonderful summers. I'm sure many of
you already know this, but this whole week the Little Grill is CLOSED
so that we can work on some major projects, do some deep cleaning, and
run workshops for the worker/owners. We've been pretty busy here, and
we appreciate your understanding and apologize for the inconvenience.
We'll be open again on Tuesday, July 19th.

Also, starting Friday, July 29th and running until Saturday, August
13th, the Little Grill will be open for BREAKFAST AND LUNCH ONLY. On
weekdays and Saturdays we will be open at 7AM and closing the kitchen
at 2:30PM, and we'll be open our normal Sunday Brunch hours of 9AM-
2PM.

We're taking advantage of the half days to try something new and fun
with our music scene. We're calling it the ENDLESS SUMMER THROWDOWN,
and we've decided to book some of our most popular music acts during
the nights that the restaurant will be closed, so that the whole space
can be dedicated to and focused on some great live music. The current
lineup is as follows:

Friday August 5th - The Furnace Mountain Band, 8PM, $5
Saturday August 6th - Jackass Flats, 8PM, $5
Friday August 12th - Devon Sproule, 8PM, $5

It's a fun experiment that we hope will provide you with the finest
listening experience we have to offer. It'll be a guaranteed great
time.

And last but certainly not least, we're making the final push now to
open THE LITTLE STORE COLLECTIVE! We've been working since January to
open a small grocery store where we can sell local produce and breads,
bulk foods, natural foods, free range meats and eggs, and much more.
The store is located at 434 North Mason Street in the Roses Shopping
Center. Our target date for the Grand Opening is **July 25th**,
barring any extreme circumstances. I'm sure I'll end up sending you
another email to announce the Grand Opening once it's been cemented
and confirmed. We're excited to realize this dream we've had, and we
hope you'll be excited to come support us!

Well, thanks for reading all this. It was long, but it was chock full
of important information. Be sure to check out the other bands we have
coming this month and next, and we hope to see you back in the
restaurant soon!

David Grier & Noam Pikelny tickets on sale now!

On Saturday, May 28th the Little Grill is pleased to present David Grier and Noam Pikelny live in concert. This is truly a unique experience for us. Noam Pikelny is an innovative young banjo player who played with Leftover Salmon and more recently with the John Cowan Band, and has just recently released his solo debut, In The Maze. David Grier is the guitarist for the bluegrass supergroup Psychograss, and for the past several years he has been voted by the members of the International Bluegrass Music Association as Best Guitar Player of the Year. Both of these men are bluegrass powerhouses in their own right, and they're only playing five shows together. We are very fortunate to have them stopping here for a night on their very limited run of joint engagements. We're expecting a huge demand for this show, so we're selling a limited number of tickets. Once we're sold out, we're sold out, so you best be getting your ticket now to ensure you get a seat. (Tony Furtado sold out before the doors even opened, and we're expecting a similar response for this show)

The show starts at 9, and the tickets will be available at the Little Grill.

Menu Changes

Dear beloved customers,
As always we love you and appreciate your business! The Collective is growing and changing, and we couldn't do any of it without you. We have always done our best to provide you with a wide variety of delicious wholesome food that is served in a friendly and timely manner at a reasonable price.

Over the last few years, we have added many new items to our lunch and dinner menu. At the same time, we have developed a full slate of popular weeknight specials and offered a popular list of discounted lunch items, which has left us in the very curious position of maintaining a very large menu in a very small space for use very little of the time.

Consequently, we are finding that the menu is becoming more and more difficult to maintain (prep, training, organization, etc.), and we find ourselves asking, "Is there a better way? Can we make life less complicated in the kitchen and simultaneously make better food that comes out faster while freeing up our minds for more creativity with lunch and dinner specials?"

Our answer is YES!
We are excited about a new vision that we have been developing for the lunch and dinner menu! Our plan is to trim up the menu and focus on those items that most of you have consistently enjoyed over the years (and add a couple of new ones we think you will love!). By doing this, we believe that we will create the mental space needed to focus on creating new and exciting daily lunch specials (2 each day!) and improving our already popular weeknight dinner specials.

We are excited about the potential these changes offer, and hope you are too. Our ultimate goal is to improve our food and service while maintaining our desire to provide an enriching and creative work place. As always, we want your feed back, so please, please tell us what you think, or write it on the back of your guest check. Remember that nothing around here is set in stone.

Marching to the beat of International Night

Wow, this month's International Nights are out of this world! Here's the sccop:
March 2 - Classic Jamaican (classic coconut beans and rice, spicy greens, fried plantains, a johnny cake and Jam sauces. All You Can Eat!!)
March 9 - Indian (veggie curry, dal, raita, chutney, aromatic basmati rice and a samosa. All You Can Eat!!)
March 16 - Mediterranean (Felafel, hummus, tabouleh, pita bread, dolma and a salad. All You Can Eat!!)
March 23 - Senegalese (Mafe: peanut butter stew, aromatic basmati, fatouche, fried plantain chips, and avocado salad. All You Can Eat!!)

And, here's the clencher - March 30th we're unsure what type of cuisine we want to have. We'll leave it up to you to decide, so send us an email, throw a comment in on this post, or give us a call with your favorite kind of cuisine and maybe we'll have it ready for you on the 30th.

International Night

Starting in February we are trying something new with our Wednesday nights. Don't panic, we aren't getting rid of Jamaican night we are simply adding to it. Each Wednesday we will feature a different cuisine: Wednesday February 2nd will be Jamaican Night, Wednesday February 9th Indian Night, Wednesday February 16th Ethiopian Night, and Wednesday February 23rd Mediterranean Night.

So be sure to come out every Wednesday for new cuisine!
